Dr. Bottger performs breast augmentation surgery usually under general anesthesia although local anesthesia with sedation can be an option in some patients.
The breast augmentation procedure begins with a small incision about an inch and a half in length, which is made either in the fold beneath the breast, around the lower half of the areola (dark skin around the nipple), or in the underarm area. Then, either a saline or silicone gel implant is inserted into the pocket depending on the choice you have previously made during your consultations with Dr. Bottger. Dissolvable sutures are then placed under the skin. The procedure may take from one to two hours.
There are several choices that you will make regarding your breast implants before surgery, including:
- Incision location
- Type of implant filler - saline or silicone
- Round or shaped implants
- Implant size
- Textured or smooth implant surface
