Gummy Bear Breast Implants Receive FDA Approval

Philadelphia Surgeon Announces Gummy Bear Breast Implants Receive FDA Approval

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has recently approved a new type of breast implant for use with breast augmentation and breast reconstruction procedures. It has commonly been referred to as the “gummy bear implant” due to its soft feel and ability to hold its shape.

Gummy bear implants are made of a cohesive gel material which retains its shape much better than silicone and saline breast implants. They are also less likely to leak, fold, or ripple. Gummy bear breast implants are shaped in a teardrop style, providing a more sloped shape than is achieved by other types of breast implants. These factors allow gummy bear implants to deliver a more natural look and feel than is currently experienced using saline or silicone.

Ideal candidates for gummy bear implants are women with little to no natural breast tissue and women who experience some degree of breast asymmetry. These new breast implants are available in a variety of sizes, and each size has 12 different configurations regarding bust projection, fullness, and height.

The FDA evaluated a 7-year study including approximately 1,000 women before approving gummy bear implants for use in breast augmentation procedures. The data from this long term study demonstrated that these breast implants are both safe and effective. In addition, gummy bear implants have been used overseas for many years, and have demonstrated a strong safety record.
